Rainbow Dracuteers is a grassroots organization dedicated to serving Dracut's LGBTQIA2S+ community. Founded in 2025, the seed of the group was planted after hearing several stories from local queer youth about ongoing difficulties and challenges living in this town while attending Dracut Public Schools. With a stubborn refusal to let LGBTQIA2S+ folks be ignored, bullied, or left behind, the fledgling Rainbow Dracuteers was born.

While the focus of the organization is, of course, supporting Dracut's queer community, a grander appreciation for community-building, local politics, and public outreach led to the decision to cover a range of topics important to any townie, regardless of personal identity or orientation. Through serving the broader community, we seek to showcase the ways in which embracing every Dracuteer individually serves to strengthen the town as a whole. Dracut prides itself on being a welcoming, neighborly town; Rainbow Dracuteers seeks to uphold this value through service, advocacy, and programming that enshrines the pride inherent in every individual human being that composes the fabric of this Merrimack Valley town.

FOUNDER

A selfie of Kaye Crawford smiling in the library

I'm Kaye Crawford, a bisexual, non-binary (they/them) Dracut resident and part-time Assistant Reference Librarian at the Parker Memorial Library. Dracut is my hometown; I'm a third-generation Dracuteer who graduated from Dracut High School in 2010. After living over a decade in the Finger Lakes region of New York State where I completed both my undergraduate and graduate courses of education (Ithaca College and SUNY Binghamton, respectively), I've returned with a spouse and two cats in tow. I'm a professional writer, neurospicy nerd, and Top Donut enthusiast. (No one makes a better iced coffee!) It's my hope that Rainbow Dracuteers will connect fellow queer townies and strengthen the community as a whole throughout the town of Dracut.
