Learn how best to support LGBTQ+ youth, their caregivers, and the community as a whole!
The Rooted in Dracut initiative continues with our Autumn of Education theme. We are very happy to announce that we will be co-hosting two trainings with Greater Boston PFLAG at the local Dracut public library! Both of these events will be hybrid, allowing for either in-person or remote attendance for folks interested in a fun, welcoming, and educational experience. Registration via the Dracut public library's event calendar is required; registrants will then receive an email with information on how to join the Zoom meeting if interested in virtual participation.
The first program will be Supporting Caregivers of LGBTQ+ Youth on Monday, October 19th from 6PM—7:30PM in the Library Meeting Room or via Zoom. Registration is now open!
This October program is geared especially towards caregivers. Providing a safe, affirming space for queer youth is essential to providing proper support for the mental health and wellness of LGBTQ+ young people. The challenges that present themselves to caregivers of such youth can be unique; this workshop aims to help caregivers understand and navigate such challenges.
The second program will be Creating Safer Communities on Monday, November 30th from 6PM—7:30PM in the library meeting room or via Zoom. Registration for this event will open on 10/19 for those interested in attending in-person or remotely.
This November program is for any and all community members who wish to gain the tools needed to be the best neighbor and ally they can be! LGBTQIA+ folks frequently navigate complex matters of safety, security, and support. Even in an ostensibly progressive state like Massachusetts, matters of safety within a community are more fraught for gay, trans, and queer people. (This goes especially for queer people of color and those on the neurodiverse spectrum.) Learning how to create welcoming environments while supporting compassionate inclusion among neighbors is essential towards building a brighter, safer, and more loving community!

This training provides parents, family members, and trusted adults with practical guidance on how to approach conversations about identity in a supportive and respectful way. You’ll learn how to create a safe and loving space for young people to express themselves, while gaining tools to navigate challenges. Special focus is given to the experiences of LGBTQ+ youth and how caregivers can affirm and support their unique journeys."
